The hidden treasure within

"We shatter ourselves to bear fruit. The spirituality of Jesus reaches its peak on the cross. He broke his body on the cross to produce abundant fruit of salvation for all humankind.

The life we have from God is our hidden treasure. We who have accepted Jesus have this rich treasure deep within our hearts. It's eternal life; it reveals the character and power of God. How can we make this hidden life flow into the world? When our walls of self are shattered, this life in us pours out.

But when I say the self must be tamed and broken, I'm speaking of a hardened outer self that limits the life within. When we let ourselves be shattered, we bring God's hidden life into the open.

How can we shatter the outer walls that hold the life of God in check? How can we let the life of God flow free? One way is to deny ourselves. As the Lord said, "If you want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me." Luke 9:23
